Denver School of Nursing Receives Accreditation From National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) For Associate And Bachelor Degree Programs
DENVER, Aug. 14, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) and Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) programs at Denver School of Nursing (DSN) received initial accreditation from the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) effective through Spring 2017.
DSN began the process of applying for NLNAC accreditation in 2008 and its programs were candidates for accreditation since January 2010. DSN's achievement of NLNAC accreditation fulfills a requirement by the Colorado State Board of Nursing and is a milestone in the college's eight-year history.
The notification from NLNAC Chief Executive Officer Sharon J. Tanner, EdD, RN congratulated DSN on its "outstanding achievement." Both DSN nursing programs received unanimous recommendations for accreditation, with no findings, from their respective teams of site visitors, demonstrating the school met all accreditation requirements.
The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission, 3343 Peachtree Road NE, Suite 850, Atlanta, GA 30326 (404-975-5000), is nationally recognized as a specialized accrediting agency for post-secondary and higher degree programs in nursing education. NLNAC has authority and accountability for carrying out the responsibilities inherent in the application of standards and criteria, accreditation processes and policy-making, among other duties.
"This success is a direct result of the input and participation from our students, faculty, staff, community partners, and clinical sites," said President Dr. Marcia Bankirer. "Receipt of initial NLNAC accreditation is tremendously impactful for all our constituents – both internal and external.
"It represents the culmination of a great deal of time and effort on the part of the college, and reflects the high standards and quality education DSN programs deliver. This is a great day at Denver School of Nursing!"
Denver School of Nursing creates a strong learning environment for students who will become tomorrow's nurses. According to Dr. Bankirer, DSN enjoys a commendable completion rate with a significant majority of students who begin a nursing program completing their studies within pre-determined timeframes.
The school's solid reputation also is reflected in its pass rates for the NCLEX (National Council Licensure Exam), the examination for licensing nurses in the U.S. To review DSN NCLEX pass rates and learn how they compare to programs at other schools, including major universities, visit the Colorado State Board of Nursing website at www.dora.state.co.us/nursing.
