Low-Income Families Receive Free Products for Their Acne Prone Teenagers

DELRAY BEACH, Fla., March 16 /PRNewswire/ -- The Pimple Clinic, a safe, effective non-prescription line of acne products developed by the dermatologist who founded Skinstore.com, is being provided to low-income teens that otherwise cannot afford acne treatments.

Teenage acne has reached epidemic proportions. Untreated acne can lead to permanent scarring, severe depression and has been associated with teenage suicide, said Dr. Steven Hacker, dermatologist, past founder of Skinstore.com and now creator of The Pimple Clinic.

"Acne and pimples can be socially devastating for teens," said Dr. Hacker, the father of three children – including two teenagers. "Between dermatology visits, acne prescriptions and over-the-counter remedies, the cost of treating one teenager can be several thousand dollars each year. For a working-class or low-income family with two or three children with acne, it can be impossible to afford these products. We want to change that and help kids get rid of acne."

Dr. Hacker created The Pimple Clinic program and today uses it for his children and patients, who report clearer skin and reduced outbreaks. The product contains the same proven acne ingredients found in Pro-Activ, such as Benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid. However, Dr. Hacker added a natural boost by adding antioxidants and botanicals, he said.

The problem for acne patients is cost. Some products cost almost $50 a bottle. Most families cannot afford the monthly costs of prescriptions and doctor visits. That's why Dr. Hacker is offering The Pimple Clinic products to low-income and Medicaid families with teenagers. He hopes all doctors will inform their less fortunate patients about this program.

To receive free products, simply insert the word "donates" in the coupon space. The Pimple Clinic will send out a two-month supply of cleanser, toner and lotion (recipients must pay routine shipping and handling fee of $9.95). The offer is valid as long as supplies last. Dr. Hacker currently welcomes pharmaceutical companies willing to support this mission with grants.
