Detroit Branch NAACP's Responds to Potential Voter Intimidation Inquiry

Share with Twitter Share with LinkedIn

DETROIT, Aug. 7, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Detroit Branch NAACP Voter Protection hotline received numerous phone calls that voters were being frisked to gain entrance to Henry Ford High School in Detroit.  Upon arriving at the scene, Detroit Branch NAACP representatives noticed a gentleman in army fatigues inside the entry asking people if they were there to vote and directing people to the polls.

Donnell R. White , Detroit Branch NAACP Executive Director, spoke with Tyronne Winfrey , Chief of Staff, of the Education Achievement Authority (EAA), an election site supervisor and a school administrator informing them the gentlemen in fatigues needs to be removed from the entry way, directing voters where to go and that he is potentially intimidating voters.

The Detroit Branch NAACP  is looking forward  to working with the Detroit City Clerk's office, Detroit Public Schools (DPS) and the EAA to make sure there are no barriers to voting for the November 6 General Election.

Additionally, the EAA may need to reevaluate the security used for Henry Ford High School .  If voters feel intimidated in the election process, we certainly believe students will be intimidated in the academic process.  Lets fix this now.

The Detroit Branch NAACP is the organization's largest branch.  It holds monthly meetings that are free and open to the public.  For more information please call (313) 871-2087 or visit www.detroitnaacp.org.
