Country's Fastest Growing Barbecue Chain Brings National Eating Contest to Texas

SAN ANTONIO, Sept. 13, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Dickey's Barbecue will host the national barbecue eating contest for the southwest region in San Antonio, TX on Friday, September 16.

"It's exciting to be a part of the national competition, we can't wait to see the competition," said Roland Dickey, Jr., president of Dickey's Barbecue Restaurants, Inc. "Texas is known for its barbecue, but the speed competition will prove to be an interesting twist, as it always has in the past."

The contestant who eats the most pulled pork sandwiches in six minutes will win a trip to Dallas to compete in the National Dickey's Barbecue Eating Contest at the original Dickey's Barbecue Pit.

"We are excited to celebrate 70 years in the barbecue business and want to make sure Dickey's celebrates with the communities across the country that have supported us over the years," said Dickey. "I can't wait to watch the finals and congratulate the national winner personally."

Anyone interested in participating is encouraged to go by the Dickey's location at 7247 Bandera Road to sign up prior to September 16.

Throughout September, Dickey's will host five Barbecue Eating competitions across the country and then send each first place winner to Dallas for the national competition on October 18, Dickey's Barbecue Pit's 70th anniversary.

The original Dallas location is still open for business and Dickey's Barbecue Pit is still owned and operated by the Dickey Family.
