FUZHOU, China, Dec. 8, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Fulfilling the dream of traveling to an undiscovered destination is on the bucket list of many. Who wouldn't want to make their travel goals a reality? The Fujian Tourism Bureau wants to make that fantasy real for six lucky winners.
The tourism bureau created several online contests, culminating in a final trip of a lifetime to visit a tulou in person for six lucky entrants. The journey to Fujian is an opportunity for the six winners to learn more about the traditional Chinese home in the Fujian region, also known as a tulou, yet little known outside of China.
The tulou, a ringed structure highlighted by its eco-friendly construction, as well as being enemy and weather protective; was built between the 12th and 20th century to be earthquake-proof, windproof, fireproof, and theft-proof through its steel reinforced 20 centimeter thick interior doors.
Over the course of 5 months, four contests were created where winners could gain a variety of prizes such as an iPhone, iPad, Amazon gift cards, even model tulous and finally, the grand prize trip to Fujian! The beauty of the Refreshing Fujian online contests was the sheer variety of prizes.
The Refreshing Fujian Discover Tulou Facebook campaign, built around the contests, included a quiz aimed at educating fans about Fujian's tulous; a Name That Tulou contest to elicit creative and descriptive names for a tulou, and finally the campaign ended with a video contest, resulting in the six winners being selected to receive a free 5-day trip to Fujian. However, the ultimate goal of the Discover Fujian Tulou campaign was to raise awareness of the region through Facebook, as well as broaden people's knowledge of the province.
The final stage of the campaign will see the six winners exploring Fujian, and participating in cultural events such as a Chinese tea ceremony, learning how to make a traditional tulou meal and watching a folklore show. Through photos, videos, and writing a travel diary, the contest entrant whose content is deemed the best, will be selected out of the six to have his or her name featured online on the Fujian Travel Global Facebook page. The fortunate contestant will also win the chance to live in a tulou; another opportunity for the lucky victor to check a goal off their bucket list.
