Diverse Collection of Photos Taken by Andy Warhol Now Available on Art.com
Snapshots, Images of Gritty and Grand New York Scenes, and the Factory Years--All Show the World Through Warhol's Eyes
EMERYVILLE, Calif., Feb. 22, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Art.com, Inc., the world's leading online specialty retailer of wall art, today introduced a new curated collection of photographs taken by Andy Warhol, published by McGaw Graphics, Inc. through its license with The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, Inc. The photographs are available as posters, including giclee reproductions, and show a range of subjects captured by Warhol throughout his extraordinary life. Warhol said, "A picture means I know where I was every minute. That's why I take pictures. It's a visual diary." From haunting black and white self-portraits to Polaroid snapshots of celebrities, many of the photos in the collection later became the inspiration for Warhol's most well-known Pop Art works.
"Andy Warhol had an incredible body of work and we are honored to expand the Art.com collection to include these captivating photos," said Gary Takemoto, senior vice president of merchandising, Art.com, Inc. "They truly capture a unique moment in time as seen through the eyes of such an important American artist. Warhol's importance was not just as a painter, but as a multi-disciplinarian of the art world. As the 25th anniversary of his passing approaches, we're proud to offer fans of his work another way to bring his iconic pop sensibility to their own walls."
Prints in this collection can be custom framed to suit any style and include:
- Photobooth sessions, including "Self-Portrait, c. 1963 (photobooth pictures)" and the legendary "Edie Sedgwick, 1966," affectionately referred to as Warhol's "Factory Girl"
- Poignant stills that evoke charged emotions and sometimes conflicts: "Race Riot, c. 1963" and "Self-Portrait in Drag, c.1981"
- The iconic "Campbell's Tomato Juice, c. 1964" and "Two Cakes and a Gun, c. 1985"
