dLife Honors Claire M. Blum, Winner of 2013 AADE Innovative Use of Media and Technology Award
WESTPORT, Conn., July 23, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- dLife is honored to announce Claire M. Blum, RN, MS Ed, CDE, CHWC, CPT, as the 2013 winner of the American Association of Diabetes Educators Innovative Use of Media and Technology Award. Sponsored by dLife, the award supports the development and implementation of an innovative use of media and technology to advance diabetes self-management education and training.
Claire will receive the dLife sponsored grant to develop a website that will provide information and education on using Continuous Subcutaneous Insulin Infusion devices (CSII) and Continuous Glucose Monitoring systems (CGM). The vision for this project stemmed from the experience of numerous individuals with a dire need for appropriate support in the use of their diabetes devices. Blum's online resource will provide education, user tips, and strategies in support of all CSII and CGM systems – on a user-friendly web-based platform.
"This award will assist us in creating a much needed non-branded, user-driven, online resource that goes beyond the typical user guide or help line," said Blum. "It will help us connect experienced health care professionals and peers with anyone who needs practical strategies, tips and support to overcome the challenges they face with CSII and CGM systems."
"dLife is honored to support Claire in her efforts to develop innovative online resources for CSII and CGM users," said Phyllis Schneble, EVP Sales & Marketing, dLife. "Today's advancements in diabetes technology coupled with the right education and support can be life changing for people with diabetes. Over the past three years, dLife has helped fund the work of diabetes educators through this grant, and we continue to support programs that connect patients with the tools and resources they need for better self-management."
dLife is committed to supporting diabetes educators throughout the year by providing them with comprehensive tools and resources to help engage and educate their patients each and every day. The Educator Resource and Community Center is a section of dLife's site that offers free education tools such as teaching materials based on the AADE's Seven Self-Care Behaviors, logs and trackers, food guides, and video tips by other CDEs. Diabetes educators can also sign-up to receive dLife's Educator Update eNewsletter, a monthly newsletter that provides the latest news and information for their everyday practice needs.
Blum will be presented with the Innovative Use of Media and Technology Award at the 2013 AADE Annual Meeting and Exhibition taking place August 7-10 at the Philadelphia Convention Center, Philadelphia, PA.
