DocuTrac Includes EMDR Documentation Content in QuicDoc EMR Professional Edition Software

HAGERSTOWN, Md., Jan. 20, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- DocuTrac, Inc., a leading developer of software for the behavioral health industry, announced the inclusion of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) documentation content in their QuicDoc EMR Professional Edition Software. According to DocuTrac's President Arnie Schuster, Ph.D., documentation content for EMDR will enable customers who are trained, certified mental health professionals to record EMDR treatment for clients suffering from Post Traumatic Stress.

The return home of our military men and woman affected by the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq has once again brought to our attention the need for effective, efficient treatment of psychological trauma.  EMDR, a nationally recognized therapy, was originated by Dr. Francine Shapiro in the late eighties. According to the EMDR International Association, EMDR therapy has been extensively researched and has consistently proven to be one of the most effective treatments for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), especially helpful for military personnel having faced traumatic events during a tour of duty.

Last year, Dr. Schuster was approached by Shelley Kaufman, Ph.D., a long time customer and user of their QuicDoc EMR software for documenting treatment and patient care. Dr. Kaufman has worked extensively using EMDR therapy with her patients. She asked to have EMDR documentation content incorporated in the QuicDoc software. Dr Schuster liked the idea and immediately began the project. EMDR documentation content was created as a group of notes that can be accessed from within the QuicDoc software. The pilot project was launched at the EMDR International Association Conference in California last year.

EMDR is listed by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) on the National Registry which is a searchable online registry of treatment interventions. This National Registry, NREPP, cites EMDR as "...a one-on-one form of psychotherapy that is designed to reduce trauma-related stress, anxiety, and depression symptoms associated with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and to improve overall mental health functioning." According to Dr. Kaufman "EMDR works; it's efficient and is highly effective." EMDR trained therapists who are current customers of QuicDoc Professional Edition software can purchase the EMDR documentation content for a nominal fee.
