"Domestic Asset Protection Trusts Can Fail" Says Heckerling Panelist
The nation's leading estate planning conference hosted experts that identified fatal flaws in domestic trusts.
MIAMI, Jan. 28, 2014 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- The 48th Annual Heckerling Institute on Estate Planning was held in Orlando, Florida from January 13 to 17, 2014. The Heckerling is the leading conference for estate planning attorneys, CPAs, and other professionals, and is the largest of its kind. It is sponsored by the University of Miami School of Law. Exhibitors and speakers include the nation's leading experts on domestic asset protection trusts (DAPTs) and foreign asset protection trusts (FAPTs).
One hot topic at this year's Heckerling was the effectiveness of DAPTs, as states continue to enact legislation in hopes of taking business away from long-established FAPT jurisdictions. A panelist at the conference noted that DAPTs, even when properly implemented, have failed.
Donlevy-Rosen & Rosen, P.A., an exhibitor at the Heckerling for more than a decade, has published an article discussing DAPTs and FAPTs. The article rectifies common misconceptions in comparing DAPTs and FAPTs. Link to article: http://trustne.ws/uj92t
Donlevy-Rosen & Rosen, P.A. will also be an exhibitor and Silver Sponsor of the Estate Planning Council of Greater Miami's 2nd Annual Estate Planning Symposium. The symposium will be held at the University of Miami's BankUnited Center, on February 11, 2014.
Persons interested in attending the Estate Planning Symposium should contact the event's coordinator, ManageAbility (www.manage-ability.net). Donlevy-Rosen & Rosen, P.A. will be on site to discuss FAPTs and other offshore asset protection strategies.
