Doris L. Wallace Proves Formidable Candidate for Seat in California's 52nd Assembly District
Wallace ready to tackle District's challenges with new solutions that produce tangible results
POMONA, Calif., July 18, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- "I will best serve the residents of the 52nd Assembly District in Sacramento," declared candidate Doris L. Wallace. The special election scheduled for Tuesday, July 23, 2013 will fill the seat vacated by Democrat Norma Torres. Democrat Wallace is a former social worker, teacher and community organizer. She won't be using the Assembly seat as a stepping stone or for political posturing. "This District has real problems that require real solutions," she adds. Wallace, who ran for the 63rd Assembly District seat, captured 39% of the vote. Her showing surprised skeptics and she is now widely recognized as a formidable candidate in the 52nd District.

"We will get Doris' message to the voters," said Yolanda Toure, SEIU 721 union retiree and Community College professor. "Doris L. Wallace doesn't pretend to know all the answers, but she asks all the right questions and that's how problems are solved. Her experience shows that she has always been in the trenches defending the rights of others. That's not a claim the other candidates will dare make or can substantiate," said Toure.
The 52nd Assembly District spans eastern Los Angeles County and western San Bernardino County, and includes communities in Pomona, Chino, Montclair, Ontario and western Fontana. "We have a mixture of affluent areas and very challenged areas," notes Wallace. "Instead of arguing about how budget cuts happened, I approach these problems with new solutions that produce results people see and feel." Wallace knows there is widespread unemployment in the 52nd District. "There has to be a new industry that can be grown with the workforce we have in the 52nd District. I simply do not accept that it cannot be done because it has not been done. I will exhaust every opportunity to create new jobs by bringing in new technologies for the residents of the District." Wallace also feels that it's time for the 52nd District's 100 plus churches to join the dialogue and will create a faith-based forum for community discussions about the issues. "We need everyone engaged."
Wallace has ideas for youth, too. "Too many of our youth have nowhere to go and nothing to do," she said. "That breeds a dangerous environment for them." She's investigating the possible creation of an outdoor skate park in her district to service both skaters and skateboarders. "This innovation would provide a healthy outlet for young people and create hundreds of new jobs in several industries," said Wallace. "Creating better, safer communities requires that we think outside the box. I'm willing to do whatever it takes to make the 52nd Assembly District better, safer and more comfortable for all residents." Recently, the California Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers, with about 10,500 members, has endorsed Wallace.
