Dr. Daniel Shasha Joins Atlanta-Based Northside Radiation Oncology Consultants
ATLANTA, July 11, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Dr. Daniel Shasha, medical director of radiation oncology program at Northside Hospital Cancer Institute and a world-renowned prostate cancer specialist, has joined Northside Radiation Oncology Consultants (NROC), expanding its treatment and diagnosis programs.
Well-known for his expertise in prostate brachytherapy and conformal radiation treatment of prostate cancer, Dr. Shasha specializes in organ conservation and offers excellent oncologic outcomes while optimizing sexual and urinary outcomes. About one in seven men in the U.S. are diagnosed with prostate cancer each year.
"It's an honor for us to have Dr. Shasha work collaboratively with our team of radiation therapy specialists," said Dr. Nancy Wiggers of NROC and chair of Northside Hospital Cancer Institute's Radiation Oncology Department. "With the addition of Dr. Shasha, our patients will have a national leader in prostate health at one of the Southeast's foremost providers."
Dr. Wiggers also said that NROC's affiliation with Northside Hospital Cancer Institute is critical to successful treatments and outcomes — more cases of cancer are diagnosed and treated at Northside each year than at any other hospital in Georgia.
Dr. Shasha, who is board certified by the American Board of Radiology, brings more than 20 years of practice expertise in the radiation management of prostate cancer to the greater Atlanta community. He has personally treated more than 4,000 prostate cancer patients and performed over 3,700 radioactive seed implantations.
"I wanted to join Northside Radiation Oncology Consultants because they have a proven record of treatment innovation and highly successful outcomes," said Dr. Shasha. "My treatment approach aligns with Northside's mission to provide integrated and compassionate care combined with a personalized approach to assist patients in selecting the best treatment option for them."
Most recently, Dr. Shasha served as director of genitourinary oncology with Mount Sinai Beth Israel in New York. Dr. Shasha has also served as medical director at Gramercy Surgery Center in New York. He earned his bachelor's at The University of Illinois in Champagne-Urbana, followed by his medical degree from McGill University School of Medicine in Montreal, Canada, and his post-graduate residency training.
In addition to Dr. Wiggers, Dr. Shasha joins Dr. Shelley Machuta, Dr. Peter Possert, Dr. Sahar Rosenbaum and Dr. Edmund Simon at Northside Radiation Oncology Consultants. Dr. Shasha offers services at four locations, including Atlanta, Alpharetta, Canton and Cumming.
"Having cancer care in your community is a significant benefit to patients and families — physically, mentally and spiritually," Dr. Wiggers said. "That's why I believe so strongly in Northside's vision of having your treatment near home without sacrificing quality of care."
New technology, state-of-the-art facilities and expert staff make the Northside Hospital Cancer Institute the largest and most respected provider of cancer care services in Georgia.
