NEW YORK, Sept. 18, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Sweet'N Low, America's iconic zero-calorie sweetener has partnered with Emmy Award winning physician, Dr. Luis Pacheco, to help raise awareness of the growing obesity and diabetes epidemic in the United States.  Obesity and diabetes affect the entire United States, with 1 in 3 adults being obese, and more than 26 million American children and adults suffering from diabetes.

Together, Sweet'N Low and Dr. Pacheco will produce two informative videos, one in English and one in Spanish, with the goal of teaching audiences about healthy alternatives to a sugary diet.  Dr. Pacheco will be working as a spokesperson on behalf of Sweet'N Low for six months and will participate in a radio media tour in November during Diabetes Awareness Month.

"Sweet'N Low has been a trusted zero calorie alternative to sugar for more than 56 years.  By using it as a replacement for sugar, it allows consumers to cut calories and manage their sugar intake while still enjoying their favorite sweet foods and beverages.  I'm delighted to partner with a brand that offers products with the ability to help Americans make better dietary choices which affect their overall health," said Dr. Pacheco.

Based in Los Angeles, Dr. Pacheco is Board Certified in Family Medicine and focuses on the obesity and diabetes epidemic. In addition to his medical practice, this Emmy Award winning family physician was the medical expert for Univision's flagship station KMEX TV Los Angeles-Channel 34, where he had a daily health segment called "Ask the Doctor."  Dr. Pacheco has also served on the faculty at the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California (USC) and was the Director of Pre-Doctoral Education for the Department of Family Medicine. He is currently the Medical Director for the Transitional Care Unit (TCU) at California Hospital Medical Center.

According to the American Diabetes Association, there are 1.9 million new cases of diabetes diagnosed each year. Through their efforts, Sweet'N Low and Dr. Pacheco will increase awareness on this epidemic and make recommendations on lifestyle and dietary changes geared at prevention.

"We are thrilled to partner with Dr. Pacheco as his goals align so well with those of Sweet'N Low," said Steven Eisenstadt, President and CEO of Cumberland Packing Corp., the manufacturer of Sweet'N Low. "Dr. Pacheco's expertise, commitment, and extensive work in the diabetes and obesity arena make him the perfect fit for our campaign."

The partnership between Sweet'N Low and Dr. Pacheco will run from August 1, 2013, through January 31, 2014.
