Dr. Mark A. Reed Joins JWA Consulting As Medical Director

PITTSBURGH, May 18, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- JWA Consulting, a leader in Lean management consulting, today announced the appointment of Dr. Mark A. Reed to the role of Medical Director. As a former facility medical and service line director at Seattle Children's Hospital, Dr. Reed brings real-world experience strengthening patient care through Integrated Facility Design planning and Lean management to the position. In his new role as Medical Director, Dr. Reed will provide client consulting support and strategic counsel to help guide JWA's healthcare strategy, continuous improvement work and employee development. Lean management, which has its roots in the manufacturing industry, has infiltrated healthcare organizations as a practical solution that maximizes an organization's ongoing ability to eliminate waste, improve the quality of care and strengthen the bottom line.

Over the last five years, Dr. Reed has held multiple executive roles within the Seattle Children's system. He most recently served as Director of General Anesthesia Services and Service Line Director. In addition to his daily clinical and operational responsibilities, Reed has held a number of hospital and departmental committee leadership roles during his tenure with Seattle Children's Hospital. He served as Chair of the Bellevue Seattle Children's Operations Council and as a member of the Bellevue Seattle Children's Leadership and Oversight Councils. He also sat on the Department of Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine Director's and Compensation and Mentoring committees. Prior to joining Seattle Children's Hospital, Dr. Reed was Chief of Anesthesia at Southwest Regional Medical Center and Rivercrest Specialty Surgery Center in Little Rock, Ark.

Aside from his directorial and clinical roles, Dr. Reed has long been an active member of national professional organizations including the American Society of Anesthesiologists and the Society of Pediatric Anesthesia. He holds an M.D. and Bachelor of Science from the University of South Alabama as well as a Master of Arts with a concentration in Health Care Management from Birmingham-Southern College.
