Inaugural event for financial literacy-focused nonprofit to be held at George Mason University
FAIRFAX, Va., Oct. 20, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Nationally recognized Millennial expert Meg Jay, clinical psychologist and author of New York Times bestseller "The Defining Decade," will be the keynote speaker at the first Millennial Success Conference to be held on Nov. 15 at George Mason University, sponsored by GenFKD, the national financial knowledge development campaign.
Dr. Jay will lead more than a dozen entrepreneurs, thought leaders and academics in a cross-generational dialogue about the economic and financial hurdles facing Millennials today. The conference will be co-hosted by the George Mason University Economics Society and is open to all college students nationwide.
"Through GenFKD's Millennial Success Conference, we hope to inspire real change in the way that young people deal with their economic realities," said Spencer Dukoff, GenFKD's Outreach Coordinator. "We explain complex financial and economic concepts in a language that today's Millennials can put into action."
GenFKD, which stands for "Generational Financial Knowledge Development," is the inaugural campaign of the nonprofit organization Young America. The campaign aims to educate college students and recent graduates about economic policy and financial literacy to help them navigate today's job market and better understand and react to the economic issues that affect them every day.
"We've designed this conference to complement our nationwide outreach efforts," added Young America Executive Director Jesse Jacobs. "GenFKD maintains a campus presence on five campuses in Virginia and more than 20 others across the nation. We're proud to hold our inaugural conference near our nation's capital at such a crucial point in the national economic policy debate."
"The conference mission is to provide both an online and offline forum to discuss and tackle the looming economic and fiscal problems that young job seekers face," said Dukoff. "We're facing unprecedented challenges created by short-term, stopgap solutions proposed and executed by the generations that preceded us. We are inviting all voices to the table with the objective of developing and promoting policies to ensure our generation does indeed lead lives as or more successful and fulfilling than our parents."
