Dr. Paul Ridker to Deliver 3rd Annual Arthur A. Sasahara, MD Lecture on Thrombosis
BOSTON, Sept. 11, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The North American Thrombosis Forum (NATF), a non-profit organization working to increase public awareness and circulate information about thrombosis and related cardiovascular diseases, has chosen Paul M Ridker, MD as the recipient of the 3rd annual Arthur A. Sasahara, MD Lectureship Award.
The Arthur A. Sasahara, MD, Lectureship Award was introduced in 2012 to celebrate NATF Founding Board Member, Dr. Arthur A. Sasahara, for his dedication to thrombosis awareness and decorated career in cardiovascular medicine. Each year, the award is given to an exceptional healthcare professional who has been uniquely influential to the field of cardiology. Past recipients have been Dr. Marc Pfeffer, and former Brigham and Women's Hospital Chief of Cardiology, Dr. Peter Libby.
Dr. Ridker will deliver the keynote Arthur A. Sasahara, MD Lecture on Thrombosis at the 2014 NATF Thrombosis Summit on September 20 at the Fairmont Copley Plaza Hotel. His lecture will explore the link between inflammation and thrombosis.
"It is very difficult to anticipate who is going to really make some major breakthroughs—and Paul has done that, showing that inflammation is a major part of arteriosclerosis, and he is internationally renowned for that discovery," Dr. Sasahara explains.
Dr. Ridker completed his residency at the Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, MA, under Dr. Sasahara's inspirational leadership. With this strong foundation, Dr. Ridker has emerged as both an expert and innovator in the field of cardiology. He is currently the Eugene Braunwald Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, Senior Physician at Women's Hospital, and serving as Trial Chairman and Principal Investigator of two multi-national clinical research trials.
