The subcommittee's overall charge is to craft the District's response to President Obama's Affordable Care Act and to strengthen DC's primary care system. Dr. Broadnax's task force will concentrate on workforce development by determining primary care needs in terms of professional education, training, distribution of providers, cost containment and other key performance indicators.
"I am honored to represent the University on this very important initiative," said Broadnax ."Our goal is to break down barriers among all healthcare practitioners and providers—physicians, nurses, behavioral health specialists, pharmacists—so that we can craft a holistic response to the primary care crisis, especially in underserved communities where the need for coordinated care is greatest." Dr. Broadnax, who holds a PhD in nursing with health policy development from George Mason, an MS in advanced adult nursing from Hampton University and a BSN from Winston Salem University, has been a UDC faculty member since 2010. She has served as chair of the undergraduate nursing program at Howard University, an adjunct at Yale and as a charter member of the Mayor's Health Policy Council for the District of Columbia.
