MARINA DEL REY, Calif., June 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Dr. Richard Merkin, President and CEO of Heritage Provider Network, Board Member of United Friends of the Children, congratulates and applauds 130 high school graduates from greater Los Angeles at the 21st Annual UFC Graduation. Over 500 guests attended the event at Walt Disney Concert Hall honoring the achievements of foster youth graduating high school and heading to college. Paul Rodriguez hosted the ceremony, and special celebrity guest speaker Jada Pinkett Smith was featured.
Dr. Merkin is passionately devoted to supporting the United Friends of the Children through Heritage Provider Network, The Merkin Family Foundation, The Richard Merkin Middle School and the Merkin Children's Charities. "These kids are amazing. They have overcome numerous obstacles, succeeding at a level that humbles me," said Dr. Merkin. "I am very proud of them and want them to know they have my respect and admiration. Their achievements are the beginning of a new chapter in their lives and I will be here to help, it is my most important mission."
In a pre-graduation ceremony, United Friends of the Children awarded 40 students scholarships totaling more than $600,000. Over the next 4-5 years, United Friends of the Children will extend support and services for these young people to enhance their college experience and beyond. United Friends of the Children is dedicated to the premise that foster youth deserve a successful adulthood. Through their Housing and Education Programs, foster youth are provided with the opportunity to graduate from high school, attend and graduate from college, get a job, find housing and have a support system that moves them gradually towards independence. Their goal is that the youth in their programs not only survive, but that they thrive.
