BOSTON, Dec. 24, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- DraftKings, Inc. today announced that James Tran from Los Angeles was the winner of its $1Million grand prize for its Fantasy Football Millionaire final, the top prize in a $3.1M prize pool available to daily fantasy football contestants. Alan Zeidenfeld, also from Los Angeles, was the runner-up, winning $350,000. The two were the top contestants out of thousands of players nationwide who took part in the competition. The win was determined by last night's NFL game when the San Francisco 49ers beat the Atlanta Falcons 34-24. An epic battle, Tran ultimately won by less than one point.
Tran, an actuary for a reinsurance company, is a married father of two who loves to dance in his free time. He started playing daily fantasy sports three years ago. With his winnings, he plans to pay off his mortgage, take a vacation and give to charity.
"DraftKings is thrilled to have hosted the largest fantasy football contest in history. Congratulations to James for his million dollar win, and congratulations to Al for winning the runner up prize of $350,000. Both had an unbelievable showing, and it was just amazing to watch this come down to the final plays of Monday Night Football. We could not have asked for a more exciting event," said CEO Jason Robins.
The Fantasy Football Millionaire contest comes on the heels of DraftKings' $24M Series B round of funding that closed in November. In one short year, DraftKings has risen to become a leading provider of daily fantasy sports. With over a million users across their mobile and online properties, DraftKings is a force in the sector. Their users and revenue have grown 10x year over year, culminating in this staggering $1Million prize. DraftKings is a US based-company and all player funds are segregated in escrow.
