BRISTOL, Pa., Oct. 25, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- DUNMORE Corporation is demonstrating a new high-performance thin film that forms the base of a new generation of carbon-coated battery cathodes this week at The Battery Show in Detroit. The new cathodes increase battery capacity and break down more slowly to deliver higher performance and longer operational lives in applications such as consumer electronics and electrical vehicles.
Major battery manufacturers use DUNMORE's aluminum-coated film as the base for specialized carbon coatings that are slower to break down in battery chemicals and conduct electricity more efficiently. DUNMORE will be exhibiting the film at The Battery Show, booth number B213.
The cathode film is DUNMORE's most recent entry into the battery market. The company also produces films for the internal containment pouches for major battery manufacturers. DUNMORE films are in batteries that power everything from handheld consumer electronics to hybrid vehicles.
DUNMORE has more than 41 years of experience developing and manufacturing high-performance films. Its products are used in a steadily growing range of applications, from highly durable labels to solar module backsheets to insulation for space vehicles.
"Battery films are an interesting opportunity for us, but our history shows that we don't enter a market until we're sure we can deliver top quality," said DUNMORE Vice President John Jordon. "Several of the larger consumer battery manufacturers are already using our film for carbon cathodes, and we expect to see consistent growth over the next few years as hybrid and fully electric vehicles gain popularity. Manufacturers are under constant pressure to increase battery performance and life span, and we're going to be in the thick of those developments."
