During Historic Drought, Gina Rodriguez, Lamorne Morris, David Henrie, Drake Bell And More Take The 4Liters Challenge To End Global Water Poverty
Celebrities join hundreds of Americans living on just 4 liters of water for 24 hours to raise awareness and funds for communities in water poverty.
LOS ANGELES, Sept. 30, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Today LA non-profit DIGDEEP announced the October 6th launch of the second annual 4Liters Challenge (#4Liters), a month-long social media campaign daring people to live on just four liters of water for 24 hours. The launch will feature a video starring Rodriguez, Morris, Henrie and Bell on collegehumor.com.
The average American takes water for granted, using more than 400 liters (105 gal) every day – the most in the world. At the same time, California is faced with an historic drought, and over 800 million people lack clean water worldwide.
To take the 4Liters Challenge, participants sign up at 4liters.org and use just four liters of water for an entire day's worth of drinking, cooking, cleaning, and bathing. (The equivalent of four, one-liter soda bottles.) During the challenge, participants share funny, difficult or inspiring moments on their social networks with the hashtag #4Liters. When participants have finished 24-hours, they earn the right to challenge four friends.
The goal of 4Liters is to give Americans new insight into the value of the water we use and the hardships faced by those without access. The Challenge also raises funds for water projects in the US and abroad. Participants are asked to raise $40 from friends and family.
"This is my second time taking the 4Liters Challenge, and it isn't easy… but it's really important," said David Henrie [Wizards of Waverly Place]. "The simplest things like shaving or washing the dishes suddenly become so hard. It's amazing how the experience sticks with you after it's over. It's so clear that clean water is a basic human right."
4Liters partners include Hurley H2O, Soylent, Conscious Box, Water Education Foundation, and more. The Challenge can be followed with #4liters, and via live stream at 4liters.org. For more information and to register, visit: www.4liters.org.
