CHARLOTTE, N.C., March 9, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Edison Nation Medical, the premier healthcare innovation marketplace, today announced a worldwide search for innovations to assist in preventing the spread and transmission of infectious disease, both within a healthcare setting as well as for use by the general public. The most promising ideas uncovered during the two-month-long search will be presented to major medical manufacturing partners, with the goal of having the innovation fully commercialized and distributed globally. This Innovation Search runs now through April 30, 2015.
The objective of this search is to uncover ideas for products, devices, technologies or applications that help prevent the spread and transmission of infectious disease. These types of products can cover a broad array of categories, including but not limited to:
- Protective garments and gear (i.e. gloves, goggles, gowns, barriers)
- Disposal of contaminated (or potentially contaminated) materials
- Sterilization methods or materials
- Education tools on how to prevent the spread of infection
- Infection detection and monitoring devices
In January 2015 alone, more than 100 people from 14 states reported having contracted Measles, according to The Infectious Diseases Society of America. This recent example is not an anomaly. From the H3N2 flu virus and whooping cough to MRSA and CRE superbugs, infectious disease continues to spread rapidly across the U.S, with adults aged 65 years and older and young children among the most vulnerable to the effects of contracting these illnesses.
"There are numerous inventors and small businesses with innovations capable of preventing the spread of infectious diseases," said Robert Grajewski, President of Edison Nation Medical. "By launching this open innovation search, these inventors now have a confidential and trusted avenue through which their invention can be submitted for full expert evaluation and, when appropriate, brought to the attention of our major medical manufacturing partners, who have the ability to quickly commercialize proven inventions on a mass, global scale."
Born out of collaboration between consumer product development and open innovation firm, Edison Nation, LLC and Carolinas HealthCare System, the second largest public health system in the United States, Edison Nation Medical brings over 10 years experience in successfully commercializing innovation ideas from individuals and small businesses. All ideas submitted to the search will be vetted through a confidential, proprietary 8-stage process led by Edison Nation Medical's team of medical, technical, intellectual property, and market commercialization experts.
The end goal of this search is for Edison Nation Medical to successfully commercialize each qualified invention on behalf of the inventor via licensing to a larger global manufacturing partner or via company incubation. When successful, Edison Nation Medical shares licensing royalties and revenues with the inventor(s). The search is open to the public, and individual inventors or small businesses worldwide are invited to submit inventions to www.EdisonNationMedical.com/InfectionControl through Thursday, April 30, 2015.
