Edmunds.com Named One of America's Best Workplaces by Fortune and Great Place to Work®
SANTA MONICA, Calif., Oct. 12, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Edmunds.com, the leading car information and shopping network, today announced that it has earned a spot on the country's Best Small and Medium Workplaces by consulting firm Great Place to Work® and Fortune. Edmunds won this accolade based on employees' anonymous responses to an extensive survey about their levels of trust, pride and camaraderie at work. Great Place to Work® reviewed the survey results of more than 52,000 employees from hundreds of companies in the ranking process.
Edmunds ranked #26 out of 100 companies on the list of medium workplaces. The honor is just the latest of a series of accolades that recognize the company's unique work culture and office environment. In June, Edmunds was named among the 2016 Best Places to Work in IT by IDG's Computerworld and its CEO Avi Steinlauf was named a Glassdoor Highest Rated CEO. And in August, Los Angeles Business Journal recognized Edmunds as a Best Place to Work in Los Angeles for the seventh consecutive year.
"I have long believed that the most important investment that Edmunds can make is in its people, and it's truly exciting to be recognized for all of our efforts to make this company such a great place to work," said Edmunds.com CEO Avi Steinlauf. "This recognition is a strong testament to all the people who work at Edmunds, especially those on our HR and Workplace Experience teams who go the extra mile to make sure we're facilitating an innovative, rewarding and fun work environment. We've put so much into building our office culture, and we look forward to investing even more in the happiness and well-being of our employees."
Edmunds operates a Results-Only Work Environment (ROWE), which gives employees significant freedom to set their own hours and take the time off they need, as long as they deliver results for the company. Other unique benefits at Edmunds include TripCa$h, which reimburses each employee up to $500 in vacation expenses; and Bonusly, a program that empowers employees to recognize each other's work and accomplishments with small spot bonuses.
The award comes just weeks after Edmunds opened its brand new state-of-the-art "EdQuarters" at the Colorado Center in Santa Monica. The 143,000-square-foot facility sets a new bar for workplace culture and amenities in Los Angeles' emerging "Silicon Beach" tech scene. Highlights of the office space include:
- a 6,000-lb. installation of 1966 and 2016 Corvettes (to commemorate the company's 50th anniversary), set wheel-to-wheel and rotating above the reception area
- a 32-foot custom stainless steel slide that connects the facility's two floors
- a 1948 Cadillac Fleetwood re-purposed as a beer and coffee bar
- 130 feet of sliding glass panels that transform the offices into an indoor/outdoor workspace
- 19,000 sq. ft. of custom whiteboard walls to sketch, design and innovate
- frozen yogurt machine with toppings bar, in addition to other complimentary food and beverage options
- game room featuring classic video games, Foosball, and air hockey
"There's a generosity of spirit that infuses the Best Small and Medium workplaces—one that has a measurable return," said Kim Peters, Executive Vice President of Great Place to Work. "Whether it's funding employee 'passion projects' or giving surprise gifts to customers, the best workplaces give it away. And they get it back in the form of inspired people who innovate harder and generate higher revenue."
The Best Small and Medium Workplaces is one of a series of rankings by Great Place to Work and Fortune based upon employee survey feedback from Great Place to Work-CertifiedTM organizations.

About The Best Small and Medium Workplaces
Published together with our partner, Fortune, the Best Small & Medium Workplaces rankings are based entirely upon feedback from more than 52,000 employees at Great Place to Work–Certified companies. Employees completed our anonymous Trust Index© survey, answering questions about how frequently they experience the behaviors that create a great workplace, including, for example, their assessment of the honesty and quality of communication by managers, degree of support for employees' personal and professional lives and the authenticity of relationships with colleagues.
Results from the survey are highly reliable, having a 95% confidence level and a margin of error of 5% or less. Winning a spot on this list indicates the company has distinguished itself from peers by creating a great place to work for all – not only do the majority of their employees experience the company as a great place to work, but this experience is consistent across the organization, regardless of gender, race/ethnicity, job role, or other personal characteristics. The companies with the highest employee ratings compared with organizations of the same complexity in size and scope were selected for the list. Companies with fewer than 100 employees compete for placement on the 50 Best Small Workplaces list, and companies between 100 and 999 employees compete for placement on the 100 Best Medium Workplaces list.
