Edtech innovator Edupath introduces "The Edupath 99"--a ranking of the 99 most popular colleges with high school students
"If you want to know where the class of 2015 wants to go to college, this is the list to watch," says Edupath CEO Michael Weiler
BERKELEY, Calif., Oct. 7, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --The Edupath 99 is a new college ranking based on the opinions of actual high school juniors and seniors who use Edupath's College Passport app—the top-ranked college guidance app for Apple (APPL) iPhone and iPad. The list is available at www.edupath.com/99-top-colleges and will be updated monthly.
While the name-brand college rankings from US News & World Report and Princeton Review eke out competing lists from the same set of commonly available data points, The Edupath 99 is powered by real students who use College Passport to curate lists of colleges they intend to apply to.
"The Edupath 99 is a no-brainer for us," explains Michael Weiler. "When we crunched the data, the results were a refreshing counterpoint to other college rankings and definitely worth sharing. The experts can pontificate all they want, but ultimately it's the students who vote with their applications."
Edupath data analyst Micah Muhr reviewed the inaugural ranking and provided some color commentary.
On traditional rivals:
At 25, Michigan beats out rival Notre Dame (27) by two spots, and sits well above archrival the Ohio State — which comes in at 49.
The University of Arizona clocks in at 91, but Arizona State wins the Duel in the Desert sitting at 83.
As befits Texas' 71-21-1 all-time record against Rice, the Longhorns (34) sit one spot above the Owls (35).
Auburn (56) beats Alabama (66), but much like last year's national championship game, Florida State (39) sits higher still.
Surprise, Surprise:
At 17, UC San Diego is the third highest school in the UC system — behind top dogs UCLA (2) and Cal (4) — but also beats out other brand name schools like Northwestern (20), Cal Tech (21) and the Ivy League's Dartmouth (39).
Amherst (46) and Williams (61), colleges accustomed to top 15 rankings, are are in the middle of the pack along with west-coast liberal arts powers Pomona (54), Wesleyan (82) and Harvey Mudd (85).
Edupath is a venture-backed edtech company in Berkeley, CA whose College Passport app combines college search, test prep and application management into a single, cohesive experience that maximizes student engagement and admissions success.
