eegoes Raises $500,000 to Finalise Development of its Innovative Social Network
BOSTON, Massachusetts, July 19, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- American-Swiss start-up eegoes, a new social network, has just announced its success securing its first funding of half a million dollars in order to complete the development of its portal, eegoes.com.
eegoes, currently in private beta, is the brain child of Guillaume Molter and Al Zane, two young entrepreneurs with a passion for new technologies and an innovative idea they came up with during a short break in the United States.
eegoes advocates a new approach to social media. Whilst other social networks continue to develop more complex integrations and further functionality for users who are already facing information overload, here, users are offered a more 'back to basics' approach on social networking.
Offering advanced networking features, but through the use of a more simplified, user-friendly interface, eegoes enables its community members to exchange information in a micro-blogging environment, with discussions themed around their areas of interest.
Categorized areas of the portal allow users to find like-minded people to share things with quickly and easily. Members in the private beta are currently sharing links, videos, pictures and events in real time with the latest web technologies also including geo-location. This approach, contrary to many social networks, is 'content-led' rather than 'individual-led', but in a far more organised environment than other micro-blogging platforms currently available.
The private invitation-only beta is still in place in order to allow eegoes to explore and test integration of additional functions or ideas and iron out any bugs during rollout of new features.
This first funding initiative was called in order to enable the company to complete the first stages of the social network build and to fund development of its mobile smartphone functionality, considered key as so much social network activity is now enabled through mobile devices.
The successful financing of $500,000 was made possible with the involvement of Swiss company Mac Invest SA and Mr Ramzi Chamat, a private investor.
Talking about eegoes, Chamat says: "Even though the actual product is already very appealing and provides an excellent social experience, the planned functionality and aims of this network are truly groundbreaking and will provide a whole new experience of social networking."
Guillaume Molter, CEO and co-founder of eegoes, is very pleased with the outcome. "For us, the aim of this funding was to enable us to further strengthen our structure and team in order to accelerate our development as well as begin putting our communication strategy in place for eegoes. We have now secured the necessary means to achieve this and we are delighted that our new investors have chosen to not only fund eegoes but have also indicated their interest in becoming more directly involved in the company's development and fast growth," says Molter.
