Eemax, Inc. Announces California & Vermont Lead-Free Certification

OXFORD, Conn., April 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Eemax, Inc. (http://www.eemax.com), the market leader in commercial and residential electric tankless water heaters, is proud to announce the achievement of obtaining Lead-Free Certification for their products. This is to comply with both California and Vermont's lead-free laws that went into effect on January 1, 2010.

Technological advances are helping reduce the amount of lead in plumbing and many states have begun to set their own lower lead content standards. California Assembly Bill 1953 calls for a dramatic reduction in lead content in plumbing products intended to dispense or convey water for human consumption through drinking or cooking. The new California law defines "lead free" to mean not more than a weighted average of 0.25% on the wetted surfaces of plumbing fixtures, valves, fittings and pipes. Vermont has since adopted a similar standard.

Per the California Department of Toxic Substances Control, lead can be harmful to humans. Lead from plumbing products may be leaching into drinking water. The amount of lead in drinking water depends on a number of factors, such as how much lead is in the plumbing parts, how large an area of a lead-containing part comes in contact with the water, how long the water is in contact with the lead-containing surface, and how corrosive the water is. Exposure to lead can cause serious adverse health effects, including delays in physical and mental development.
