Efficiency United Helps Students Go Green

OKEMOS, Mich., Nov. 10, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- The THINK! ENERGY with Efficiency United Program is launching a month-long green initiative to educate students grades four through six about increasing energy efficiency in homes throughout Michigan. The program is provided by Efficiency United, which consists of 11 utility providers in Michigan committed to providing energy efficiency programs, in collaboration with the Michigan Department of Education and National Energy Foundation.  

THINK! ENERGY program staff will deliver a 60 minute presentation to educate students about renewable and nonrenewable energy resources, and to help explain simple measures and technologies students and teachers can use to save energy. In addition to the presentation, the program will give students and teachers free take-home energy saving kits containing products such as a low-flow shower head, a high efficiency faucet aerator, two compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs and a LimeLight™ night light. Teachers will also receive educational posters and activities for their science, social studies and math classes to help students learn more about increasing energy efficiency.

The program is expected to reach 2,500 students and teachers in 32 different schools in the Efficiency United member service areas. Schools in the service territories of Alpena Power Co., Bayfield Electric Cooperative, Daggett Electric, Indiana Michigan Power, Michigan Gas Utilities, SEMCO Energy, UPPCO, We Energies, Wisconsin Public Service Corp., and Xcel Energy will host THINK! ENERGY with Efficiency United events.
