EFIC-Grünenthal Grant: Supporting up-and-Coming Researchers in the Field of Pain

AACHEN, Germany and BRUSSELS, September 23, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --

Young scientists from any European member country of the European Pain Federation EFIC^® are invited to apply for the EFIC-Grünenthal Grant (E-G-G) 2014. This grant is one of the most prestigious and highly regarded pain research grants worldwide. 

Provided by the European Pain Federation EFIC^®in conjunction with the pharmaceutical company and pain expert Grünenthal GmbH, the grant supports young scientists early in their career to carry out innovative clinical and experimental human pain research projects. The selection for the awarding of grants is made independently by the Scientific Research Committee of the European Pain Federation EFIC^®.

The E-G-G is awarded biennially and the grants totaling € 200.000 are funded by Grünenthal GmbH .They are aimed to support up-and-coming researchers who are responsible for future advances and development in pain research. "The increasing number of applicants shows that E-G-G is a major way in which EFIC^® is able to promote translational pain research. Since the establishment of the E-G-G, 47 winners from many different European countries have been honored for their projects in human pain research and have become members of the selected, stellar club of prize holders. E-G-G winners get the opportunity to present their findings at the show case symposium during the EFIC^® Congress", Dr Luis Villanueva, Chair of the EFIC^® Committee on Scientific Research summarizes the importance of the EFIC-Grünenthal Grant.

Several former EFIC-Grünenthal Grant winners have confirmed the relevance of their research grants. "This gives me the opportunity to follow my research in pain. From now on I can focus on my research without having to worry about funding all the time." says Dr Jordi Casanova-Molla, Spain, E-G-G winner 2012. Some have gone on to present their research at the biennial EFIC^® meeting and other prestigious scientific meetings. In 2015, two former winners have been honored by being selected by the EFIC^® Scientific Programme Committee to speak as plenarists at this important meeting.

In order to find new treatment possibilities in any medical field, both innovative ideas for research projects and young scientists to carry them out are needed.
