RICHMOND, Va., Feb. 19, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Elephant Insurance, a provider of direct-to-consumer insurance products, today announced their partnership with Project Yellow Light, a national annual scholarship competition developed by Julie Garner, following the death of her son, Hunter Garner, at the age of 16. The competition encourages students to create compelling stories with video, radio, or billboard content that motivates and persuades their peers to drive distraction-free and embrace safe driving habits.
"Keeping our hometown community safe is important to us, and we're delighted to partner with Project Yellow Light to help them share the important message of distraction-free driving both throughout Richmond and nationally," said Alberto Schiavon, CEO of Elephant Insurance.
Through Elephant's partnership with Project Yellow Light, the company will provide funding necessary for scholarship awards as well as local paid media assets to allow the competition's winning submissions to be shared across local television, radio, and billboards throughout the Richmond community.
"Project Yellow Light is thrilled to partner with Elephant Insurance! We love having a hometown partner based with us in Richmond, VA; and one that cares so much about road safety. This collaboration will help us broaden and spread our message of distracted driving prevention," said Julie Garner, founder of Project Yellow Light. "Partners like Elephant help us amplify our shared message to keep our youngest drivers safe and to combat distracted driving."
Project Yellow Light's competition is open to high school junior and seniors and full-time undergraduate college students. Categories included billboard, video, and radio and winning submissions are awarded scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 and the opportunity to have their stories distributed nationally to roughly 1,600 TV stations or displayed across the Clear Channel Outdoor network of digital billboards, or iHeartRadio's national network of radio stations.
Billboard submissions are due March 1, 2019. Video and radio submissions are due April 1, 2019. Students can learn more and enter at www.ProjectYellowLight.com
About Project Yellow Light:
Hunter Garner died in a car crash on June 10, 2007 at the age of 16. Project Yellow Light was founded as a legacy to honor Hunter and to prevent other youth from meeting that same demise. It began as a short film scholarship competition created to put a stop to one of the leading causes of death – car crashes. Now, this annual film scholarship has expanded to include a billboard and radio competition where students create public service ads that share the importance of distraction-free safe driving in a peer to peer format.
