Eleven Fifty Academy Celebrates National Coding Week
Nonprofit Teaches Skills Necessary to Fill Growing Technology Skills Gap
CARMEL, Ind., Sept. 21, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- It's the skill you need to create your own mobile app, website or coding career. It's called coding or programming and the nation's demand for coders is far outpacing its current supply. According to one statistic, more than 1 million jobs could go unfilled due to a lack of coders. That's a problem for many reasons including starting salaries in this high tech space can reach $100,000 a year.1
Eleven Fifty Academy (www.elevenfiftyacademy.org) was established to help close this gap by raising awareness of this growing opportunity for coders. In recognition of National Coding Week, Eleven Fifty Academy is hosting its own Eleven Fifty Academy Coding Week, beginning today with the launch of an educational video, simply called "What is Code."
Tuesday, September 22, the public is invited to the Academy for a free What's Up with Eleven Fifty Academy Open House www.elevenfifty.com/whatsuptickets that will allow interested students to try their hand at coding and meet one-on-one with the Academy's expert instructors who will preview the most in-demand programming languages and platforms currently being taught at the Academy. Attendees will also have the opportunity to view a coding demonstration involving local celebrity coder, Indy Eleven Soccer Forward, Duke Lacroix.
Wednesday, September 23, the Academy will host a Tweet –a–Thon using hashtag #1150CodingWeek. Prospective coders are encouraged to tweet the reason they believe they should receive free admission into the Academy's Introduction to Coding course. Three students will then be selected to receive complimentary tuition into the two-day course. The week ends on Friday, September 25, with the start of the Developer's Workshop http://conf.devworkshop.org where Eleven Fifty Academy is a premium sponsor.
Established in January of 2015, Eleven Fifty Academy has already served more than 500 students from 20 states and 4 countries. In 2016, they hope to serve more than four times that amount.
"We are thrilled with the success of the Academy to date," said John Qualls, president Eleven Fifty Academy. "We are helping to close the nation's growing technology skills gap, one coder at a time and in a relatively short amount of time. We encourage everyone, individuals and company representatives alike, to come and check out the Academy during our Open House. There are so many ways to get involved. You can sign up for a course, sponsor or course, or follow us on-line."
