ELKHART, Ind., March 16 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Sherwin Simon, Athletic Director at Elkhart Christian Academy, is announcing a new varsity football program at ECA to begin in the fall of 2011. Varsity home games will be played at the new Elkhart County baseball stadium on County Road 17 and ECA will enter the IHSAA alignment for 1A varsity football. Simon is pleased to add football to the school's sports offerings stating, "Athletics is one of the most powerful vehicles we have for discipling our students. Football gives us one more opportunity for discipleship."

The precursor of Elkhart Christian Academy's football program, under the direction of Al Reasonover, who will be the head coach of the varsity football team, is the Elkhart Club Football team launched in 2008. The team has experienced much success in area competition (18-7) over the past two years. In 2010, club football will continue with a middle school team and a junior varsity team comprised of private school, public school, and home schooled Christian young men. Practices for the upcoming season will begin in July at the recently completed practice field at ECA. Head Coach Al Reasonover says, "The decision to take Eagles football to the next level has been carefully evaluated by ECA. God is doing an amazing work, continuing to use football as another tool to grow young Christian men on and off the football field."

Dr. Brian Dougherty, Administrator of Elkhart Christian Academy, is excited about the creating of community partnerships with this endeavor. Dougherty says, "What a blessing to see so many local families come to our campus to participate in Elkhart Club Football. I am especially thankful for the hand of friendship Mr. Craig Wallin has extended to ECA to use the new Elkhart County baseball stadium for our home games."
