SAN MATEO, Calif., April 24, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Emergence Capital Partners, the leading venture capital firm focused on technology-enabled service companies, today announced that co-founder and General Partner Jason Green has joined the board of directors of the National Venture Capital Association (NVCA), the preeminent trade association for the venture community.
Green was inducted to the NVCA board today, along with five other new members, during NVCA 2012 Annual Meeting in Santa Clara, Calif.
"The NVCA has championed some of the most important initiatives shaping the future of our technology-based economy," Green said. "I'm very eager to work with such an enthusiastic and esteemed group to continue NVCA's mission of fostering entrepreneurship by breaking down barriers to innovation and streamlining the pathways to success for emerging technologies and entrepreneurs."
With more than 15 years of experience as a visionary and venture capitalist, Green co-founded Emergence Capital Partners in 2003 to focus exclusively on technology-enabled service companies. The firm was the first investor to focus exclusively on SaaS, cloud services, business freemium and social and mobile application providers, long before "the cloud" even appeared on the IT or business radar. Emergence investments include top public SaaS leaders like Salesforce.com and SuccessFactors (now part of SAP) —along with privately-held leaders such as Yammer, Lithium, Box, Veeva and EchoSign (recently acquired by Adobe), among others, that are enabling the next generation of business productivity at massive scale.
Emergence recently closed its third $250 million fund, exceeding its target by $50 million and bringing the firm's total to $575 million under management across three funds. Despite an expanding portfolio that now impacts more than 30 million business users and 300,000 businesses in 190+ countries, the firm maintains a distinctively hands-on approach. Emergence's partners and advisors work closely with entrepreneurs as a team, lending a full spectrum of expertise and experience in a broad range of areas from customer acquisition to technology development and beyond.
"Supporting entrepreneurship broadly and treating entrepreneurs with respect is a core value of the way we do business at Emergence, and we believe it's a critical factor in any successful investment," Green said. "The NVCA clearly shares this point of view having spearheaded the successful JOBS act to help growing companies and I believe my appointment to the NVCA board validates our approach and belief that when the entire entrepreneurial community thrives, the venture community thrives."
Prior to his work at Emergence, Green spent six years as General Partner with USVP and worked as an associate and Kauffman Fellow with Venrock, the venture capital arm of the Rockefeller family. He has led a number of successful early-stage investments in high-profile, market-leading companies, including SuccessFactors, DoubleClick, Visual Networks and Ask Jeeves.
In addition to his NVCA appointment, Green is Chairman Emeritus and serves on the board of directors for the Center for Venture Education and the Kauffman Fellows program, and was Chairman of the West Coast Research Center for Harvard Business School where he remains an active board member. He is also a founding board member of Endeavor, the leading nonprofit serving high-impact entrepreneurs in emerging markets globally.
