Employment and Consulting Expert, Vaco Los Angeles, Offers "State of Employment" for Southern California
Hiring Trends Up 20% over 2011 but Employers Must "Move Fast" to Find Good People
LOS ANGELES, Aug. 13, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- "Employers need to make hiring decisions so they don't lose good people," said Frances Moreno, managing partner at Vaco Los Angeles, a leading consulting and employment firm for financial, accounting and technology professionals. Moreno made the statement as part of her "state of employment" announcement based on Vaco's market observations on hiring in Southern California over the last twelve months. According to Moreno, employment is up by a solid 20 percent over 2011 for its financial and technology candidates.
"This is a good trend for all areas of the market," Moreno added, "Companies hire financial and tech professionals because they're expecting growth in business. Growth speaks well to hiring for all sectors of the workforce." The fastest hiring growth is occurring in commercial real estate, manufacturing, technology, entertainment and biotech. Moreno added that, "companies need to move faster, however, or they will miss key hiring opportunities."
According to Moreno, Vaco is still observing the most rapid growth in the hiring of financial consultants rather than full-time hires. "Clients are faster to bring in a consultant, but in both consulting and full-time employment, organizations are looking for the 'ideal' candidates – people who have worked in the same industry, who have knowledge of a specific software, and are within a certain salary range."
Vaco partner Stephanie Keairns agrees. "Clients are going through very extensive interview processes, sometimes three or more rounds. They are also moving toward the use of technical aptitude tests as well as management/personality assessments."
There is a huge demand for Big 4 CPAs as well as those with experience in SEC reporting.
Moreno stated, "While companies need to be sure they are hiring good people, we don't recommend that they take too long. The fact is that there is a hiring gap even in today's market. Excellent people are in high demand, and a company that waits too long to make an offer can end up missing its chosen candidate. In addition, employers should not overlook the value of a good 'cultural' fit as well as looking for candidates with good credentials."
For job seekers, Moreno advises that they continue to be proactive and network extensively to help put themselves in front of the right hiring managers.
