READING, Pa., Sept. 3, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Pennsylvania Power Company (Penn Power) is offering low-income customers an opportunity to make their homes efficient and save money on their electric bills by enrolling in the WARM energy conservation program.

The WARM program is available to both homeowners and renters and includes an in-home energy evaluation, a specialized energy savings plan, and energy-saving items installed in a customer's home.  In addition, depending on their electrical usage, customers also could be eligible to receive energy-saving home improvements, including:

  • Attic and/or wall insulation
  • Caulking and weather stripping
  • Refrigerator/freezer testing and replacement
  • Electric water heater inspection and saving measures
  • Energy-saving light bulbs
  • Replacement of inefficient window-unit air conditioners

"The WARM program is designed to help Penn Power income-eligible customers make their homes more energy efficient," said Dave Karafa, FirstEnergy president of Pennsylvania Operations.  "By taking advantage of some of the WARM program options, these customers can be more comfortable in their homes and lower their electric bills at the same time."

The WARM program is free to customers who meet income guidelines.  To qualify, a homeowner or renter must have a gross income (before tax) at or below 200 percent of the Federal Poverty Guidelines and use at least 600 kilowatt/hours of electricity per month.   A single homeowner or renter's income should not exceed $23,340 annually to qualify.  For a family of four, income should not exceed $47,700 annually.
