A public school program of Niobrara County School District #1, WYVA is open to all students who reside in Wyoming and offers online instruction, hands-on curriculum and the support of state-licensed teachers to cultivate an individualized education for each student.
"The success of our students is the most important thing to us," said Nicole Tiley, head of school of Wyoming Virtual Academy. "WYVA provides the unique opportunity for students to receive a world-class education in the environment where they are most comfortable."
The online curriculum used at WYVA is rigorous and engaging, including courses in language arts/English, math, science, history, world languages, art and music, as well as over 100 elective and Advanced Placement® courses for high school students. College- or career-minded students can choose from a broad range of profession-focused CTE courses in order to gain a competitive edge for the future, discover their path after high school or explore a possible college major.
Courses are delivered online with the support of a state-certified teacher and students receive a diploma at graduation. Students in grades 11 and 12 are also able to earn college credit while in high school. Eligible students take advanced courses tuition-free and receive up to 32 credits to apply both to their school diploma and a post-secondary degree.
"We often hear from students that learning is fun," says Kimberly Dillon a high school teacher at WYVA. "The online curriculum can be tailored to address their strengths and weaknesses, plus having control of their school schedule lets them find time to pursue real-world interests, whether that is robotics or roping."
During the enrollment period WYVA will be conducting online and in-person information sessions throughout the state. Interested families are encouraged to attend to meet teachers, staff and other families and to learn more about the school and the award-winning online curriculum provided by K12.
