NEW YORK, March 8, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- It's MARCH and that means that the deadline for entering Les Dames d'Escoffier International's (LDEI) M.F.K. Fisher Awards contest for women writers is only weeks away. Entries: ldei.org. The fee per entry is $35, and entries are due by March 31, 2016.
The 2016 contest accepts culinary writing from (women) authors published during 2015. The grand prize winner, the best of all categories, will receive $1,000 and a trip to Washington, DC (Oct. 30) to receive her honor in person at the annual LDEI awards gala. Three cash prizes ($50, $100, and $500) and certificates will be awarded in each of the three categories: books, print, (magazine and newspaper) and Internet.
The entries must have been published in 2015, should be nonfiction and may include analytical pieces, autobiographical explorations and forays into culinary history. Entries must be no longer than 2,000 words and will be judged on writing, knowledge of subject matter, topic, relevance and creative approach. The judges include editors, authors, educators and other food professionals who are leaders in their field but who are not members of LDEI.
LDEI, a worldwide organization of women leaders in food, beverage and hospitality, established the award to recognize excellence in culinary writing and to honor the late Mary Francis Kennedy Fisher, considered one of America's greatest food writers.
LDEI is an international organization of women leaders who create a supportive culture in their communities to achieve excellence in the food, beverage, and hospitality professions.
