Summary

The Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) can cause both acute and chronic liver disease. HBV is typically transmitted through contact with infectious blood or bodily fluid, including vertical transmission from mother to child at birth and transmission via sexual intercourse. Risk factors of chronic hepatitis B (CHB) include unprotected sex with an infected partner, men who have sex with men (MSM), intravenous drug injection (IDU), and a previous history of a sexually transmitted disease (STD). CHB has a well-established comorbidity association with hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection, hepatitis D virus (HDV) infection, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection, and alcohol abuse.
