SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 16, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The new EU General Data Protection Regulation General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) brings sweeping changes and tough compliance challenges for any business with EU customers and employees. TRUSTe, the leading data privacy management company, today announced a package of solutions to help companies meet the stringent new requirements and signaled its intention to pursue accreditation as a data protection seal provider under the new Regulation.
Recent research into how companies were preparing for the GDPR across the U.S. and Europe showed half of companies were still unaware of the changes, while others were investing up to $0.5 million to address the new law. 55% of companies surveyed were looking for more detailed guidance on the GDPR and 43% were looking for technology solutions to meet the new compliance requirements.
With final agreement on the GDPR this week, TRUSTe's package of solutions to help companies comply with the changes includes:
- New GDPR Readiness Assessment available in January 2016 to help companies assess current privacy practices against new GDPR requirements.
- Comprehensive Privacy Impact Assessment capability through TRUSTe's global consulting team and SaaS-based platform (Assessment Manager).
- Continuing education programs building on the EU Data Protection 2015 Conference, including Privacy Insight Series webinars, advisory notes and events.
In addition, as the leading global provider of privacy certifications, TRUSTe will seek to become accredited as a data protection seal provider with the relevant European supervisory authorities, leveraging 18 years of delivering privacy assessments and certifications and experience as an approved Accountability Agent for the APEC Cross Border Privacy Rules system.
TRUSTe has a long history of helping companies address EU privacy requirements. TRUSTe launched their EU Safe Harbor privacy program in 2000 and has since assessed thousands of companies for compliance with the Safe Harbor principles. TRUSTe launched their EU Cookie Consent Manager solution in March 2012 and became an EDAA approved icon and certification provider in July 2013.
Chris Babel, CEO, TRUSTe said: "After four years of negotiations, the GDPR represents the biggest change in global privacy law for 20 years, extending the reach of European consumer protections around the globe from Stuttgart to Singapore to Silicon Valley. While stronger rights for consumers will help build trust in the digital economy, the challenge facing businesses is immense.
"As the compliance countdown begins, businesses need to take action now to ensure they, and their systems, are ready for the new world order. At TRUSTe we're here to help them meet those challenges through a comprehensive package of technology, education and privacy consulting expertise."
