Evening Training Series at UC San Diego Helps Launch or Expand Innovation-Based Companies
LA JOLLA, Calif., Feb. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- The Rady School of Management at the University of California, San Diego is offering a pair of evening courses designed to help entrepreneurs and aspiring entrepreneurs launch or expand their innovation-based businesses. The Venture Development Series is offered through the Rady School's Center for Executive Development.
Each course consists of 11 evening sessions scheduled between March 2 and July 22. New Venture helps aspiring entrepreneurs define their product or service concept and develop a plan for funding and launching the business, while Growth Venture helps entrepreneurs plan for the growth phase of their established company.
"Often, someone has specific expertise and a great idea, but they don't have the business skills to turn it into a viable company," says Dr. Rob Fuller, director of the Rady School's Entrepreneur Development Program and lead instructor for the Venture Development Series. "Once a business is established, it often outgrows the skills of its owner and becomes stagnant. Growth Venture helps company leaders define opportunities that will drive future development."
New Venture is most relevant to those with innovation-based business concepts, such as scientists or engineers with product or service ideas related to life sciences or technology. At the final session, industry experts provide insights on each participant's business plan. Growth Venture helps entrepreneurs redefine leadership roles, align all aspects of their businesses and examine ways to maintain a competitive advantage in the marketplace. Both courses offer one-on-one business coaching and feature guest speakers with topical expertise at each session.
The Venture Development Series is based on the FastTrac® NewVenture™ and GrowthVenture™ curricula developed by the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation. Dr. Fuller has led FastTrac® training programs globally on three continents and contributed to the development of the latest FastTrac® materials.
A free informational session on both courses will be held Thursday, Feb. 11 at 6:00 p.m. at the Rady School of Management. To attend, email Lindsay Lackey at [email protected]. To learn more or apply for either course, visit http://www.rady.ucsd.edu/exec/open/venture-dev/.
