Together, the syndicated television show, website and book support Everyday Health's healthy eating initiative, which extends the Company's overall mission to help people make better health and lifestyle decisions every day. RecipeRehab.com has become a premier destination for consumers looking to make smart food choices for themselves and their families, and the marketers who want to reach them. The book, published by HarperWave, a division of HarperCollins, includes 80 delicious recipes such as Stuffed French Toast with "No-tella," and family favorites like Crispy Beef Tacos and Lightened-Up Cheeseburger Pizza, accompanied by beautiful 4-color photography, chef's tips and nutritional information.
Currently airing on ABC stations nationwide, each episode of Recipe Rehab features a rotating cast of celebrity chefs and each week two go head-to-head in a competition to transform a calorie-laden dish, submitted by viewers, into a guilt-free version. Celebrity chefs such as Spike Mendelsohn, Govind Armstrong and Candice Kumai, among others, each create their rehabbed interpretation of the dish, slashing fat, sodium and calories in the process. In conjunction with the series, the show's website, RecipeRehab.com, is designed to empower healthy eating by promoting a robust social sharing environment that provides engaging content and features additional recipes and discussions.
"As creators and curators of the best health and wellness content, it is important Everyday Health makes it accessible anywhere, anytime a healthy lifestyle decision is being made--whether users are on mobile, web, watching TV, or in a book store," explained Mike Keriakos, Everyday Health President & Co-Founder. "We are very excited to see a cookbook from our Emmy-nominated TV series Recipe Rehab be published, and we believe it will further the show's theme encouraging families to cook together and healthfully while having fun."
"I feel so lucky to be part of Recipe Rehab and to have had the opportunity to change families' lives by teaching them that with the right foods, you can transform what you eat," said Candice Kumai, featured chef. "What I love about Recipe Rehab is that it gives everyone in America the tools to create tasty, healthful foods, right in his or her own kitchen."
Populus Brands, the LA-based marketing and brand building agency, brought together and managed the multi-faceted deal between HarperCollins, Everyday Health, Trium Entertainment and Litton Entertainment.
About Recipe Rehab
Nominated for a 2013 Daytime Emmy, Recipe Rehab, produced by Everyday Health and Trium, is the first program from a YouTube original channel to premiere on broadcast television. The popular program has expanded its format and debuted on ABC stations as an original half-hour, weekly educational and informational series in October 2012. In each episode, the show's host Danny Boome plays referee between two competing chefs on a recipe recreation, with a healthy twist. The recipe comes from a real family who submitted their favorite, decadent dish. The "Recipe Rehab" chefs compete to take it from unhealthy to healthy. Once the chefs' burners have been turned off and the meals have been plated, that featured family casts their vote on which dish is the 'better eats' based on ease-to-make, taste, and closeness to the original recipe. Each week, Danny also advises the audience on his recipe for a happy, healthy and stress-free kitchen.
