Famed Rolling Stone Magazine Logo Creator to Design Rolling Stone LA Logo

JIM PARKINSON TO DESIGN LOGO FOR FIRST-EVER U.S. ROLLING STONE MAGAZINE VENUE

LOS ANGELES, March 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Jim Parkinson, the renowned designer of the iconic Rolling Stone logo will create the Rolling Stone LA logo, owners Niall Donnelly and Joe Altounian announced today. The logo for Rolling Stone LA, the first-ever U.S. Rolling Stone magazine venue, will be inspired by the magazine's famous logo and reflect the timelessness for which Rolling Stone is known.

The news follows the December announcement by Rolling Stone LA owners Niall Donnelly and Joe Altounian and legendary Rolling Stone editor and publisher Jann S. Wenner of the first U.S. Rolling Stone venue. Bringing the best of the iconic magazine to life, Rolling Stone LA, www.rollingstonela.com, will open at Los Angeles' popular Hollywood and Highland Center in the summer of 2010. Ideally situated among some of the country's most famous and historic attractions, including the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Grauman's Chinese Theater and the Kodak Theatre, the multi-level Rolling Stone LA venue will encompass more than 10,000-square feet and serve as an exciting blend of equal parts restaurant, bar, lounge and upscale private-event space.

Parkinson, a master in the field of logo design, has been designing letterforms for more than forty years and started his career as a lettering artist for Hallmark Cards in 1964. In 1977, he redesigned the Rolling Stone logo into the instantly recognizable black and red typeface. Parkinson has also done lettering for bands such as Creedence Clearwater, Taj Mahal, The Doobie Brothers and Kansas.

"Jim was there at the beginning and we're excited that he's going to be a part of this exciting new chapter for Rolling Stone. His work is always original, authentic and very recognizable," said Donnelly.

"Jim's experience working with Rolling Stone magazine and some of the world's most famous rock n' roll bands, makes him the perfect choice to create the Rolling Stone LA logo," added Altounian.
