FANANGEL™ Launches Platform Allowing Fans To Reward Collegiate Athletes
Pay-for-Performance Crowdfunding Site Legally Gives Fans a Voice In Motivating and Rewarding Athletes and Teams
PARK CITY, Utah, March 11, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Crowdfunding social media site FANANGEL™ is re-defining the relationship between sports fans and their favorite athletes and teams. Just in time for NCAA "March Madness," FANANGEL is launching its Beta at www.FanAngel.com allowing fans to make a difference and incentivize collegiate and professional players/teams with money that they—the fans—pledge for performance.
Fans participate on FANANGEL by creating a profile and establishing a small account balance secured via PayPal. Once registered, fans review player/team news and incentives that FANANGEL lists on the site. Fans then pledge money for specific win, score, or performance incentives including staying in school. Pledges are held in secure escrow and reported publicly as news.
"Sports fans are frustrated seeing their favorite athletes leave college early," said Shawn Fojtik, FANANGEL's Founder. "They feel powerless to influence their favorite players and teams. Fans want a seat at the table—and most are willing to pay something to have it. How many Oregon fans would have pledged the price of a cup of coffee to keep Marcus Mariota in a Ducks uniform for another year?"
Through FANANGEL, fans directly and publicly influence outcomes by crowdfunding for athletic performance. Millions of fans and millions of dollars pooled in pledges gives fans a powerful voice in sports. The platform allows fans to 'fan' athletes, pledge for performance, track success, and reward achievements.
Beginning immediately, fans can engage and pledge incentives for NCAA players and teams to win and/or perform during games. Players may also be challenged to stay in college another year or more.
FANANGEL plans to offer athletes the pledged money after NCAA eligibility is complete, or should have been complete, and the athlete agrees to thank fans on social media. At that time, the athlete can accept some, all, or none of the money.
For team pledges, post FANANGEL's success and credit card processing fees, 90 percent of the pledge will be split pro-rata to each of the rostered teammates, and 10 percent goes toward the Angel Fund for graduate school scholarships, non-profits including the Wounded Warrior Project and Right To Play, and other stakeholders. For individual player pledges, 80 percent of the pledge goes to the individual, 10 percent goes toward the teammates, and 10 percent goes toward the Angel Fund. If a pledge is not achieved, the money is returned to the fan's account for use toward other pledges.
College athletes do not list themselves on FANANGEL, promote the site, promote products, communicate with fans, accept pledges, or accept a promise of payment on FANANGEL.
FANANGEL incentives are created with good-of-the-game goals and are structured to encourage team play. For example, incentives for a player to achieve specific personal stats, to reward losses, or negative conduct are prohibited.
FANANGEL will soon expand to professional, amateur, and other college sports including football, basketball, hockey, baseball, international football – futbol (soccer), NASCAR, and the Olympics. An athlete-to-fan reward system is under development as well, and fans may be individuals, groups, or companies.
On FANANGEL, fans, athletes, teams, owners, agents, associations, conferences, leagues, advertisers, and all who support fairness and want a voice in sport, win on the platform.
