Farbman Medical Focus Pays Off: Company Leverages 10+ Years of Expertise, Promotes New Health Care VPs to Respond to Healthcare Industry Changes
SOUTHFIELD, Mich., May 19, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- In response to recent sweeping legislative, health care, economic and societal changes in the medical office real estate market, Farbman Group/NAI Farbman CEO Andrew V. Farbman has announced the promotion of two team members and the addition of a third to its Medical Real Estate Solutions (MRES) affiliate.
"HIPPA, Stark and JCAHO/AOA compliance now more than ever create a tremendous need for increased expertise, efficiency leadership and an advanced understanding of the needs of hospitals and healthcare organizations, as well as the legislative and regulatory issues that apply to medical real estate," said Farbman. "We promoted these individuals because they are tremendously talented and knowledgeable. They have vigilantly monitored the pulse of the healthcare market and are prepared to lead our clients through all the complexities health care real estate can entail."
Promotions included:
- LANEY CAVAZOS, a 13-year veteran of Farbman Group/NAI Farbman, was promoted to Senior Vice President of Healthcare Services from Director of Corporate Services. Her new responsibilities include management and business development of MRES, and serving as the single point of contact for corporate clients.
Cavazos' experience includes serving clients in leasing/subleasing, disposition and acquisition, and renewals and expansions of existing portfolios totaling more than 5 million square feet.
She is a member of NAI Global Elite, a group comprised of the organization's top performers and top producers. She earned a Bachelor's degree from Eastern Michigan University in Business Administration. - JEFFREY (JEFF) CAVAZOS has been promoted to Vice President of Brokerage Health Care from NAI Farbman Vice President. He joined NAI Farbman in 1993. He started out in industrial real estate and over a 15-year period completed transactions involving 10 million square feet. Cavazos has focused on medical real estate full-time since 2008, during which time he has been involved in adding two new health systems to the portfolio of MRES.
He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from Walsh College. - KRISTI LAWTON has joined the MRES team in the position of a Sales and Leasing Associate Healthcare. She previously had been employed with the company as a leasing consultant and worked on special medical projects.
Medical Real Estate Solutions (MRES) is believed to be the largest and only Michigan company dedicated solely to property solutions for health care entities. With a portfolio spanning across the Midwest, MRES maintains more than 5 million square feet of medical real estate, representing hundreds of millions of dollars in transactions.
"Farbman Group has been at the forefront of the medical real estate sector, since specialization in the field more than 10 years ago. We had the vision that this would be an important sector, and MRES executives needed to be dedicated full-time to health care," said Andy Gutman, President, Farbman Group/NAI Farbman. "We've built a strong team, including our dedicated Compliance Officer, Chuck Caputo, who works closely with our team to ensure leases and sales adhere to regulatory standards."
During recent years, the health care industry has trended toward consolidation and efficiency. Large specialty centers are replacing traditional stand-alone medical offices. Because full-service medical facilities often include sophisticated imaging infrastructure, laboratory capabilities, and diagnostic and traditional family practice offices all under one roof, real estate professionals require deep understanding of the unique demands of those buildings: leases, layouts, structural specifications and specialized service spaces.
At the same time, physicians are finding ways to increase flexibility, such as flex space which can be used for after-hours urgent care. They are also doing away with the single-location office, opting for multiple satellite offices in order to be closer to their patients. Simultaneously, as physicians reimburseables have been reduced, they also are seeking ways to also reduce their overall operational expenses.
According to CoStar, growth in the senior population is expected to continue to outpace that of the total population into the next decade. Combined with more people insured due to the Affordable Care Act, and the need for more healthcare services, demand for medical space and related industry counsel is expected to remain high in coming years.
