Fedcap Opens in South Bronx, 15 Jobs and Plans for 150
NEW YORK, March 24, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Fedcap (http://www.fedcap.org), a 75-year-old nonprofit that helps people with barriers get to work, today opened a new Bronx facility with 15 jobs and plans for 150.
Former New York City Mayor David Dinkins and representatives from NYSID, the Hunts Point and Bronx Overall economic development corporations, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Restaurant Associates, The New York Yankees and others were scheduled to gather to help inaugurate Fedcap's operation in the historic BankNote building in Hunts Point. The site will initially house Fedcap's Production Mail Services Division, and already serves such clients as the New York City Council and The City University of New York.
Fedcap helps people with barriers – including returning veterans, the formerly incarcerated and at-risk youth – become employable and get to work, in its own and outside businesses. Private- and public-sector employers from Con Edison to the U.S. Army have long turned to Fedcap's Socially Responsible Outsourcing™ to fulfill the services they need for operational excellence.
"This opening marks the launch of Fedcap's commitment to the Bronx," said Christine McMahon , Fedcap president and CEO. "We could have placed this operation anywhere in the region; we went where it's needed the most.
"Fedcap creates permanent jobs that provide a livable wage, medical benefits and hopeful futures for local people in New York, New Jersey, and Washington, D.C.," said Christine McMahon , Fedcap president and CEO. "But jobs alone aren't enough to break the cycles of poverty and need. Fedcap reaches out to communities to understand their comprehensive challenges, and partners with other nonprofits and agencies to help meet them. In the Bronx, for example, in addition to providing jobs, we are working with other agencies to open a mental health clinic, support youth transitioning from state care to independent living, help people being released from prison, and review services for veterans returning from Afghanistan and Iraq."
About Fedcap: A nonprofit founded in 1935, Fedcap (http://www.fedcap.org) develops innovative and sustainable solutions that help people surmount barriers, work toward economic independence, and effect change in their families and communities. Through evaluation, training, counseling, advocacy, job placement and job creation, each year we help more than 2,000 Americans overcome obstacles, and find and keep meaningful employment.
Fedcap is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
