Festival Mozaic's 2011-2012 WinterMezzo Series: Heroes & Heartthrobs
Intimate weekends feature world-class chamber musicians
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif., Sept. 21, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Festival Mozaic has announced its WinterMezzo Series, the well-known summer festival's chamber music series that will take place from October 21-23, 2011, and February 10-12, 2012, at various locations around San Luis Obispo.
The WinterMezzo Series brings together exceptional artists from across the country under the direction of the Festival's music director, Scott Yoo. Featured guest artists include mezzo soprano Jacalyn Kreitzer, pianist Susan Grace, violinist Jason Uyeyama and cellist Andrew Smith.
"Heroes" (October 21, 22 and 23, 2011). Composers throughout the ages have been inspired by the masters that came before. This program presents musical "Heroes" – pieces of music written in joyful celebration of the timelessness of musical genius. The Festival's world-class musicians will perform works by Robert Schumann (inspired by Mendelssohn and Bach), Earl Kim (inspired by Debussy and Faure) and one of W.A. Mozart's beloved "Haydn" Quartets.
"Heartthrobs" (February 10, 11 and 12, 2012) Music has the singular ability to express the emotions of the heart, and these great composers were all inspired by love, that most stirring emotion, to write these seminal works that live on centuries later. Chamber works by Beethoven, Borodin and Schumann will be performed. (See the full schedule below).
Each concert cycle has three ways to experience the music -- a Notable Encounter Insight, a Friday evening one-hour presentation where the performers informally discuss the featured works; a Saturday evening Notable Encounter Dinner, where guest artists present lively commentary, musical excerpts and insider observations accompanied by dinner and wine; and then the full concert program on Sunday afternoon.
Festival Mozaic's 2012 Summer Festival will be held from July 11-22.
