Final Program Announced For Inaugural Global Summit For Advanced Manufacturing (GSAM) In San Francisco
Speakers from multiple industries to highlight best practices in manufacturing around key themes of miniaturization, integration, ruggedization and automation (MIRA)
SAN JOSE, Calif., June 24, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The Global Summit for Advanced Manufacturing (GSAM)--created for manufacturers, by manufacturers, and about manufacturers--today issued its final program for the inaugural GSAM 2014, which takes place in San Francisco on July 9-10. Co-located with SEMICON West 2014, GSAM 2014 will feature an impressive line-up of speakers presenting case studies and best practices that can be applied across multiple industries—including robotics, materials science, chemical engineering, electronics, textiles and big data analytics.
GSAM is committed to identifying the common threads between manufacturing processes and helping companies to enable efficient, effective and manageable manufacturing, in part by drawing from experts that have several decades-worth of experience in manufacturing problem solving. As such, the GSAM 2014 program will feature 2 keynotes and nearly 30 presentations from leading manufacturing companies, including Bayer Material Science, Bosch, DuPont Industrial Biosciences, Flextronics, GE Energy, Guardian Industries, IBM, Invensas, Panasonic and Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp. (SMIC). Program sessions are built around the themes of miniaturization, integration, ruggedization and automation (MIRA), as well as materials and processes, where the vast majority of manufacturing issues can ultimately be linked.
GSAM 2014 attendees will learn from speakers about a variety of best practices in manufacturing applicable to their business, including:
- Analyzing the cost/benefit equation for automating
- Successful out-sourcing strategies and conditions
- Reducing earth elements and hazardous materials used in processing
- Improvements in collecting, processing and interpreting processing data

In addition to the technical program running July 9-10, GSAM will host a manufacturing tour on Friday, July 11, that will allow conference participants to witness first-hand several of Silicon Valley's most state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities. This all-day event will include the following visits:
- Applied Materials' AKT Display Business Group – tour participants will see the AKT Display PECVD (plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition) applications lab for new equipment design, new TFT process development and customer demos. Applied Materials AKT personnel will outline the process and the manufacturing challenges and changes realized as the company quickly transitioned from the early Gen 2 equipment for 0.2 square-meter sheets of glass to the Gen 10 systems that handle super-thin glass that is 9 square-meters.
- Flextronics – participants will see Flextronics' Silicon Valley Product Innovation Center (PIC), which was recently honored as one of Industry Week Magazine's Best Plants in America, and learn how Flextronics is helping to bring innovative products to market rapidly and in a confidential environment. The tour will also include a visit to Flextronics' Lab IX Incubator Accelerator, the Advanced Engineering Laboratories and Cafe Innovation Labs.
- Page Technology Center – The tour heads to the largest high-tech manufacturing space currently available in California for lunch and for a quick briefing on manufacturing trends around the world.
