On Thursday, April 2, 2015, at 7:30 p.m., in The Sanctuary, actors will recreate "The Last Supper," Leonardo da Vinci's famous painting of Jesus' last gathering with all of his disciples. "The Last Supper dramatization is just one of the unique events that our church offers, but it is a popular one for families and adults of all ages," said Rev. Dr. Russell H. Ritchel.
"Jesus really was a controversial figure in his day and the characters speak about their role in those events around that table. It provides an inside look into what was going on at that time," said Rev. Ritchel. Afterward Communion is given, but it is optional. "We have people of different faiths who come and enjoy the dramatization. We do it in such a way that it's comfortable for everyone."
On Easter Sunday, Rev. Ritchel said First Presbyterian will offer a full and festive day. "We are always excited because this is the very center of what it means to be a Christian, to celebrate the resurrection," said Rev. Ritchel.
The Easter Sunday celebrations will include multiple worship services, a full band, traditional music and lilies. "It is fitting that we gather in a such a beautiful outdoor setting in Colee Hammock Park along the edge of the river to celebrate the coming of Easter," said Rev. Ritchel.
Colee Hammock Park, 1500 Brickell Drive, is also the site of First Presbyterian's Easter Egg Hunt which will be held on Saturday, April 4 from Noon to 2 p.m. Please RSVP for the Egg Hunt by calling (954)462-6200.
