First Presbyterian Church's "Wired" Summer Sermon Series Focuses On The Need For Community
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., June 9, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Open to people of all faiths, the 2014 Summer Sermon Series, "Wired: Understanding Our Circuits," conducted by Rev. Dr. Russ Ritchel, Jr., Interim Pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Fort Lauderdale (401 SE 15 Ave., Fort Lauderdale, FL), will focus on the human need to be in relationships with others and the community.

"People are more important than things. I think that's something Christians and non-Christians alike can get behind. I want people to know they can find value and relate to the "Wired" sermon series, even if they don't buy the Christianity part," said Rev. Dr. Ritchel.
The "Wired" Summer Sermon Series will run from June 8, 2014 through July 20, 2014 and includes topics such as:
- "God has wired us up to need one another" (We are designed to live in community)
- "Defining the circuits " (The importance of establishing good boundaries)
- "When the circuits overheat" (How to deal with conflict and disagreement)
- "If a circuit-breaker blows" (The importance of forgiveness)
- "Preventing Obsolescence" (How to have relationships for the long-haul)
God created individuals but he created us to need others – to need community. "One of the things I'm trying to help people understand is how we are built. We are people, wired-up to bring about God's glory. That is one of the reasons why I believe gun violence has become so prevalent in society today – we're not connecting to each other as we were intended," said Rev. Dr. Ritchel.
Rev. Dr. Ritchel believes many of today's shooters are very lonesome. "Sometimes ignoring someone is worse than bullying them. If we don't learn to reach out, we make ourselves part of the problem. It is then that we are going contrary to God's wiring, and doing damage to ourselves and others," said Rev. Dr. Ritchel.
