The small airplane — a Beechcraft Bonanza — crashed shortly after leaving the Tupelo Regional Airport at 8:30 in the morning. Unfortunately, all four individuals on board perished as a result of the crash. The four passengers included the pilot, Lt. Colonel Henry "Jack" Jackson, his wife, Gwynn Groggel, and passengers Dr. Charles Torti and his wife Carrie Torti. They were all from Kerrville, Texas and taking a trip to Virginia.
Shortly after takeoff, Jackson radioed twice, reporting that there was smoke in the cockpit.

"This is a very experienced pilot who issued a distress call on takeoff reporting smoke in the cockpit and said he would attempt an emergency landing. This may have some similarity to other aircraft accidents we have handled. So, we are opening an investigation on this tragic accident."
We would like to send our deepest condolences to the families of those lost in this tragic accident.
