Flu Shots Available Now at Kroger's Family of Pharmacies and The Little Clinic
CINCINNATI, Aug. 31, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The Kroger Co. (NYSE: KR) is offering $25 flu shots at more than 1,900 pharmacy locations nationwide or 88 The Little Clinic locations in select stores. Flu shots are available for ages two and up and high dose flu shots are available for ages 65 and older.
No appointments are necessary, and all flu shots are administered by certified pharmacists or The Little Clinic nurse practitioners or physician assistants. The Kroger Family of Pharmacies accepts most insurance plans including Medicare.
"Our trained pharmacists are available seven days a week to provide flu shots as well as health and wellness information to help our customers stay healthy this flu season," said Lincoln Lutz, vice president of pharmacy for Kroger.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends an annual flu shot for all people age 6 months and older. The 2012 seasonal flu vaccine has been developed to protect against three flu strains: H1N1 and two new strains, H3N2 and a B strain.
Because human immune defenses become weaker with age, older adults are at higher risk of severe illness from the flu. This year, the Fluzone® High-Dose flu shot is available as an option for those age 65 and older. The higher dose of antigen in the Fluzone® High-Dose vaccine is intended to give older adults a better immune response after vaccination.
Kroger is also available to provide on-site flu clinics for workplaces and businesses. For more information about the Kroger Workplace Flu program, visit www.kroger.com/workplaceflu.
For additional questions on seasonal flu vaccines, please visit your local Kroger pharmacy or The Little Clinic location. The Little Clinic locations can be found at www.thelittleclinic.com.
