NEW YORK, Aug. 14, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- While food trucks have been around since the late 1600s, these mobile kitchens have experienced a boom in popularity in the last five years, especially in the streets of New York and California.

AVE residents didn't have to travel far this summer to experience the food truck phenomenon. "At AVE, we know traveling for business and being away from friends and family for extended periods can be stressful," says Lea Anne Welsh, president of AVE. "That is why every month, each of our communities hosts a Resident Reception to give our residents an opportunity to relax and socialize with their neighbors."
This summer, AVE invited popular food trucks to make pit stops at their communities to cater Resident Receptions of an upwards of 100-200 residents.
In June, the famous orange The Taco Truck of Hoboken was parked outside AVE Clifton for almost 2 hours, where residents had their choice of three complementary tacos from a specialized menu. "Our Resident Receptions are always well-attended, but there was an added level of excitement that day," says Tiana Mandukich, general manager of AVE Clifton. "Our residents are still raving about the event!"
The Nomad Pizza truck, a restored 1949 REO Speedwagon, created fresh, made-to-order brick-oven pizzas for AVE Somerset residents at their July Resident Reception. "There was a continuous line all evening! But the pizzas only take 90 seconds to make, so it moved quickly," observes Tara Galluccio, general manager of AVE Somerset. "Our residents were so excited to have dinner prepared fresh for them right at home."
Many AVE residents still have a chance to get in on the food truck craze in August. This month, AVE Clifton has hired the award-winning pizza truck, Pizza Vita – which catered AVE Union's Resident Reception in May – to cater its Resident Reception on August 15th; Mediterranean food truck SpitFire will be making a stop at AVE Dulles on August 22nd; and AVE Downingtown residents will be treated to Stewart's Root Beer Mobile Restaurant on August 28th.
